What we do
What we do

EMERGEANDSEE promotes creative and innovative student videos, films and animation.

We bring student work to the big screen through our regular cinema events in London, Berlin and Budapest, and distribute show reels to international festivals and cinemas, giving the stars of tomorrow unique international exposure.

From submissions by students across the world we pick the most innovative and compelling work which shows the great quality and variety of media, techniques and ideas being made. We at EMERGEANDSEE believe that we're now in a world where good ideas are valued much more than technical perfection - and EMERGEANDSEE is showing these ideas and supporting the people who create it.

EMERGEANDSEE is not a commercial enterprise. Everybody working for EMERGEANDSEE does this voluntarily because they believe in supporting student short film and its directors.

History
History
EMERGEANDSEE was started by Camberwell students Robert Laing and Kathrin Schöps in the year 2000, which was a key moment for video. Students have just recently had access to cheap technology, which allowed them to make creative, spontaneous work. This has meant a huge rise in the number of students experimenting with video, animation and film in art colleges, without an over-emphasis on technique.

Since then EMERGEANDSEE has grown enormously becoming one of the best known and most innovative organisation promoting student film throughout Europe and further.

After Show one at Camberwell College, London we moved straight to the Curzon Soho Cinema in the West End. There we held all other London EMERGEANDSEE shows. EMERGEANDSEE also grew internationally: thanks to the work of Hana Yamazaki, also a Camberwell Graphic Design student, we had our first successful event in Budapest in spring 2001 and expanded to Berlin in early 2002 where EMERGEANDSEE has been equally popular.

Today EMERGEANDSEE continues running events in London, Berlin and Budapest and constantly opens up new opportunities to show films to a larger audience. This includes screenings at international festivals and cinemas.

The continually updated moving image material stimulates rich debate and polemic of the current and future major moving image issues impacting on students and tutors. The range and level of moving image creativity and production is astounding. EMERGEANDSEE reveals the true extent of creative talent within our Design and Art Schools.

The Curzon Soho Cinema initially got involved with EMERGEANDSEE for two reasons. Firstly, because the organisers really believed in their vision of showing shorts from some of the finest film students in a proper setting. Secondly because the standard of these films deserve wider exposure, and we were in the fortunate position of being able to do something about it. [.] The branding of the EMERGEANDSEE project is very strong and has been a big factor in the success. Bemoaning the standard of most current British feature film-making is understandable. Encouraging and helping the talent that is undoubtedly out there makes a difference to it's future.

EMERGEANDSEE is a showcase of the most creative international student videos.

Formed by students, what makes the project stand out is the quality and professionalism. Videos are selected with a ruthless attention to ideas and standards which attracts the public and the commercial sector.

Consequently EMERGEANDSEE can sell out the Curzon Cinema in London¹s Soho and exhibit Internationally. The screenings also highlight a wealth of ideas challenging conventional cinema and breaking down the notion of short films as just calling cards for conservative features. Highly recommended.
